Man in La Mancha

Today was a great day. We left Madrid to head into the “La Mancha” area and visit the amazingly historic town of Toledo (no, not in Ohio and having nothing to do with a scale).

Toledo was established in Roman times, expanded by the Moors, rebuilt by the Spanish, and at one time in the middle ages 50% Jewish. It exists in a walled compound on a hill, surrounded by a river on three sides. It is a tangle of narrow lanes, with ancient churches, synagogues, government buildings, stores, and restaurants.  Here are some pictures:

Perhaps the most famous "El Greco" painting.

Here's a picture for Bob Hood.

 The Spanish love their ham.
Sadly, the view from the main square.
After our visit we drove five hours to Granada. Early morning tomorrow as we visit the Alhambra.
