First stop was the ancient city of Hazor. Hazor is an ancient city that Abram and Sarai may have stopped at 3800 years ago. It was ruled by Egyptians, Canaanites, destroyed by Joshua, re-built by Solomon and Ahab...and finally destroyed by the Assyrians.
Next we went to Tel Dan, the site of the Tribe of Dan, an altar with a Golden Calf, and ancient and really ancient city gate, and a series of springs that feed the Jordan river.
Next we went to the site of Caesarea Philippi, a 1st century city filled with Roman and Greek temples, a temple to the Roman Emperor, more springs of the Jordan. It was also the site where Jesus took his disciples and asked them "Who do people say that I am?"
Finally, we ascended into the Golan Heights, drive through Druze villages, and ascended to two different viewpoints to view Syria and the outskirts of Damascus.
The view is of the Israel - Syrian border.
And...while we don't want to worry anyone, while we were there we witnessed an explosion in the town below - and active battleground for pro and anti Assad forces. The UN Peacekeepers who were observing said this was a daily affair and you never knew who was firing what at whom.
Another great day. Tomorrow we head south. We're changing hotels, so blog postings will depend in internet availability.
