Petra

Today was an amazing day. Petra is as amazing as it looks in all her pictures. OK, not a Biblical site, but a place I could not pass by without visiting.

Just walking down the narrow canyon that leads to (The Siq) was an experience in itself. It would be worth the visit if it led nowhere.

But all you Indiana Jones fans know the Siq leads to a building/façade as famous as any on earth. I have to say, the ‘Treasury’ is truly as impressive as it looks in all the pictures you see.

There are ruins spread over a wide area. Your jaw just drops again and again as you see these amazing facades carved into the sandstone

Major congrats to my travel partner Shawn, who -nearing 50 in a few days- made two big climbs to the Altar of Sacrifice and the Monastery. No pictures of them, because the fat nearly 54 year old with the bad knee knew better than to try climbing the hundreds of rough stairs involved.

Two final pics. First for Ariana and Alisha, my dog lovers. This little pup was near the Treasury, limped, and looked really hungry…so I swiped a good bit of meat at the lunch buffet and gave him a good meal.

Finally, in the major weird category, this guy shows up at the Treasury and puts on a turtle suit and poses for the tourists. Strange world.
